Can I still work and collect Social Security disability?

Can I work while collecting Social Security disability?

I always say, ”It is everybody’s God-given responsibility to work and support yourself if you can.” If you cannot because of a physical or mental disability, we are always happy to help people get Social Security Disability. Then, many of our clients will ask us, “Well, can I work a little bit while I am receiving benefits?” The answer is actually different, whether you’re receiving SSI or SSDI. If you are receiving SSDI, there is actually an amount of money that if you earn under that amount, you can still receive your SSDI benefit.

On the SSI program, if you work, essentially it will reduce your SSI benefit and, depending on how much you work and how much money you earn, you may actually be ineligible for SSI. It is always a little bit complicated. Therefore, it is a good idea to check with a competent attorney who knows the answers to these questions.

At Marasco & Nesselbush, we have a team of experienced Social Security attorneys who know the ins and outs of social security disability. We are here to help. Feel free to give us a call and we can assist you through the process.
