Paralegal Job Description (Personal Injury)

Job Duties

Working under the direction of an attorney(s):

  • Prepare all legal documents associated with the onset of filing of Complaints with the Court to the settlement of litigation case
  • Prepare and e-file/file Motions with the Court and diary for objections
  • Prepare and e-file/file Objections with the Court
  • Prepare and e-file/file Orders with the Court
  • Prepare all discovery documents Plaintiff to Defendant and Defendant to Plaintiff
  • Preparation of responses to discovery and meet with clients if necessary, to complete discovery documentation
  • Handling of occasional hospital visits, ACI visits for translation or to take photographs relative to development of litigation case
  • Handling of calendar appointments for managing partner and associate attorneys relating to the litigation cases
  • Scheduling of depositions, arbitrations, mediations and preparation of Arbitration/Mediation Packages to submit to arbitrators/mediators
  • Preparation of settlement statements, compromise/reduction letters for litigation cases that settle prior to trial and post-trial
  • Preparation of all legal documents associated at trial time
  • Translation during trial testimony preparation appointments with all Plaintiff parties involved, if applicable
  • Handling of visual exhibits at trial if required
  • Maintain Pleadings Index
  • Close files once litigation case has settled
  • Prepare draft letters associated with the development of litigation file including dictations translation from managing partner, or associate attorneys
  • Translate in Spanish, both orally and written when required
  • Copy, fax, file, scan etc. as needed
  • Respond to all PI litigation clients and attorney phone calls
  • Maintain a diary system of PI files
  • Assist managing partner in any and all related miscellaneous letters, errand requests, etc. that he may ask (may include transportation of managing partner or associate attorney(s) to litigation hearings in court, arbitration/mediation appointments) 

Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience handling plaintiff’s personal injury cases
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize and handle large volumes of work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong computer skills and record tracking.
  • Must have the ability to work independently.
  • Must have the ability to work under pressure.
  • Must be energetic and motivated.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet navigation
  • Spanish language a plus
  • Prior experience in a personal injury firm required.
  • Paralegal Certification / Degree
