“Every time our attorneys win benefits for those who really need them, it creates a feeling of accomplishment. My entire legal career has been dedicated to representing regular people in need. My goal has been to even the playing field.”

Mariam A. Lavoie, Social Security Disability Attorney Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts

Mariam A. Lavoie is an Associate Attorney with Marasco & Nesselbush, LLP.

With more than 20 years of legal experience, she has successfully represented hundreds of Social Security Disability claimants at all levels of review before the Social Security Administration, the Office of Disability Adjudication and Review, the Appeals Council, and the United States District Court.

“I became a lawyer because I cherish justice and I wanted to dedicate my life to leveling the playing field for regular people,” she says.

She said personal experience with illness and an interest in all things medical improves her effectiveness as an attorney.

“I help people who are unable to work due to a physical or mental disability—or both—obtain Social Security benefits,” she says. “My job is winning Social Security cases as soon as humanly and legally possible.”

Attorney Lavoie likens Marasco & Nesselbush to a family. “Like most families, we strive towards a common goal and face daily challenges by combining our talents,” she says. “Our common goal is to improve the lives of our clients and draw out the best in each other. I love being a part of a professional community that seeks to do good for others and for each other.”

Attorney Lavoie is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association’s Social Security Disability Committee, as well as of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives. She also has extensive experience in Personal Injury law.

Having grown up in West Warwick, Mariam Lavoie graduated with highest distinction from the University of Rhode Island and cum laude from Suffolk University School of Law. Attorney Lavoie is admitted to the practice of law in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and the United States District Court.

When not practicing law, Attorney Lavoie spends time hiking, birding, canoeing and enjoying the wonders of nature. “My greatest anchors aside from my professional vocation are my family and my faith,” she says. “I enjoy cooking for the Sunday football games. I am thrilled to see my children develop into responsible and caring adults, and I love spending time with my husband—my best friend.”
