Marasco & Nesselbush, LLP is proud to be a returning sponsor of the 47th annual Blessing of the Fleet Festival located in the heart of Narragansett, Rhode Island. The festival is one of the most widely-attended events in all of Rhode Island and hosts tens of thousands of visitors each year.

The Blessing of the Fleet began in 1972 as a way to pay tribute to those who risk their lives out at sea and included a priest who blessed each boat who participated in the event. Those who participated in the celebration decorated their boats with pennants, flags, and other decorations. As time went on, the Blessing of the Fleet transformed into a much-anticipated annual event.

The Blessing of the Fleet Festival kicks off on Thursday, July 26th, 2018 with a seafood festival which lasts for three days. Each year, nearly 30,000 individuals attend the highly anticipated seafood festival, which includes food and beverage vendors, a beer tent, games and rides for families, and live music performed by local bands. The highlight of the Blessing of the Fleet festival is a 10-mile road race occurring on Friday, July 27th, 2018. Boasting the title of one of the top three distance races in New England, the road race is open to runners, walkers, and wheelchair users. The event is heavily attended by athletes near and far — the 3,100 competitors in last year’s race came from all over the country to attend the race. Entrants of this year’s race will find themselves engulfed in the beautiful scenery that Narragansett has to offer, and those who participate should prepare to eat afterward, as the race will end at the site of the seafood festival in Veteran’s Memorial Park, right next to the Atlantic Ocean. Shuttles will be available throughout the day, and prizes will be awarded to the top finishers of the race in various age categories. To register for the road race, click here.

The festival wraps up on Saturday, July 28th, 2018 with the Blessing of the Fleet parade at Salty Brine State Beach. The boats which participate in the parade will be blessed by Reverend Francis P. Kayatta. Those who wish to enter their boat into the parade must do so by Thursday, July 26, 2018, and there is no fee to participate in the parade.
