When confronted with a dilemma, our team steps up. In recent months, the number of people begging on the street corners near our office has increased dramatically. Our staff and attorneys feel terrible if they ignore the pleas for help, but recognize that giving money in this manner may encourage dangerous behavior. There have been fights at the corners, individuals walking out into traffic and as the winter progresses, hypothermia and frostbite are serious issues. There is also an underlying concern that funds donated at street corners may be used to purchase things that are not consistent with “helping”. As a responsible approach, our attorneys and staff chose to raise funds by initiating a “chili cook-off” within the office. With firm-wide participation and commitment, our team raised over five hundred dollars which was then matched by our Marasco and Nesselbush Charitable Foundation. A check for one thousand dollars was presented to Crossroads to further their work serving the poor and homeless in our neighborhood.
Donna Nesselbush and I are yet again astounded by and so proud of the our team’s compassion and commitment to serving those in need.
