Paralegal
Our busy Providence-based law firm is seeking a Paralegal to work in our Personal Injury/Medical Malpractice department. Litigation experience (3-5 years) required. Bilingual Spanish a plus.
Required Skills & Qualifications: Organized individual with good communication skills and ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize.
Preferred Skills: Bachelor's degree in a related field; training/experience as a legal assistant/paralegal; proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet Navigation and Prevail a plus.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Prepare all legal documents associated with the onset of filing of Complaints with the Court to the settlement of litigation case; Prepare and file Motions with the Court and diary for objections; Prepare all discovery documents Plaintiff to Defendant and Defendant to Plaintiff; Preparation of responses to discovery, meet with clients if necessary to complete discovery documentation; Handling of occasional hospital visits, handling of calendar appointments for partner and associate attorneys relating to the litigation cases; Scheduling of depositions, arbitrations, mediations and preparation of Arb./Mediation Packages to submit to arbitrators/mediators; translation during trial testimony preparation appointments with all Plaintiff parties involved.
Some Prelitigation Duties may include:
Screen potential new personal injury and medical malpractice cases over the telephone; Complete initial intake paperwork for new clients (Providence office only)
Request medical records and bills for clients and diary for receipt/follow up; Respond to incoming calls from clients, insurance companies, and medical providers
Utilize a daily diary system and complete tasks; Prepare files for demand; Prepare arbitration packets and statements
Set up evaluations and send packets; Prepare settlement statements.
